The Association of Pakistanis in Ireland is here to support community members in practical, meaningful ways. Our services are rooted in compassion, dignity, and a sense of shared responsibility.

How can we help…

Alongside direct support services, our events are a vital part of community life. We organise other events as well. These gatherings bring people together, strengthen relationships, and help our children experience and enjoy their cultural heritage.
March 23rd is celebrated as Pakistan Day (also known as Republic Day). On this date in 1940, the All-India Muslim League passed the historic Lahore Resolution, which formally demanded a separate homeland for Muslims in the subcontinent and laid the groundwork for the creation of Pakistan. The day also commemorates the adoption of the first constitution in 1956, marking its transition to an Islamic Republic.
August 14th is celebrated as Independence Day (Youm-e-Azadi). This date marks when Pakistan officially gained independence from British rule and became a sovereign nation in 1947. It is a day of national pride and remembrance of the immense sacrifices made by leaders and citizens during the struggle for freedom.
Literally meaning “Night of the Moon,” this festive occasion occurs on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, right after the new moon is sighted, signaling the end of Ramadan. Markets and bazaars are brilliantly lit and bustling late into the night as people rush to complete last-minute shopping for new clothes, bangles, and accessories. A major highlight for women and girls is applying intricate henna (mehndi) designs on their hands.
This refers to social gatherings or parties held during or in the days following Eid. These events are essentially large family and community reunions, often organized by social associations, schools, or workplaces, to celebrate together and strengthen bonds of friendship and kinship. They feature food, music, games, and entertainment, allowing people to visit and exchange greetings (“Eid Mubarak”) with extended friends and relatives who they might not have seen on the main day of Eid itself.
