About Us

Intro

The Association of Pakistanis in Ireland (API) was founded in 1988, when the Pakistani community in Ireland was still small, mainly made up of doctors, business professionals, and their families. As more people began to arrive, early community leaders recognised the need for a platform that could bring everyone together and respond to the daily challenges faced by newcomers.

Our Story

In those early years, new arrivals struggled with basic needs such as finding accommodation, accessing a place for prayer, and creating opportunities for their children to learn about Pakistani culture and history. To address these issues, a community meeting was held in Ballyhaunis, hosted by Mr. Rafiq. Pakistani’s from across Ireland were invited, and the gathering became a turning point in our community’s history.

At that meeting, a collective decision was made to purchase a house in Dublin to help new immigrants who had nowhere to stay. A generous amount of money was raised on the same day, and the community later bought a house that played an important role in supporting new families and individuals as they settled in Ireland.

From the beginning, the community also decided to celebrate Pakistan’s national days i.e. 23rd March (Pakistan Day) and 14th August (Independence Day) every year. This commitment has continued without interruption since 1988 and remains a core part of our identity.

Who We Are Today

Today, API is a recognised, long standing community organisation serving Pakistanis across Ireland. We organise cultural and religious celebrations, provide community support services, and act as a bridge between generations. Helping our children understand their roots while growing up confidently in Ireland.

For more than three decades, API has remained committed to preserving our cultural values, offering practical support, and bringing people together.

We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone.
